How long after Boot Camp would my son go into a combat situation?
A: Once a Marine is out of Boot Camp they are allowed a certain amount of time for leave then they will report back for there job training. After the job training is over and they are in a position to leave they must go through a training regime to fully prepare them for a combat situation.
Can my son change his MOS once in boot camp?
A: No, Once you set foot on the transportation to boot camp, the contract your son signed is what your son will be doing until a contract renewal opportunity.
Will I be able to talk or write letters while he is in Boot Camp?
A: Yes, In fact recruits and family are encouraged to write daily.
What happens if he is hurt while in Boot Camp?
A: If an injury happens the procedure is to allow time to heal and if the healing period time takes to long, your son will be “recycled” which is basically moving to a different platoon that is at the training point your son left off at.
Can the parents be on base before the Boot Camp graduation ceremony?
A: No Recruits are not allowed visitation rights until Boot Camp graduation.
Do all recruits get deployed to a combat zone after Boot Camp?
A: No, there are Marines that work in safe environments such as ordering supplies and secretary duties.
If my son does go into a combat zone, how long are they there?
A: The normal tour time is six months at a time.
Is there a limit to how many times they go into a combat zone?
A: Unfortunately no.
How long is the enlistment term and is all of it active duty?
A: The enlistment terms are negotiated over once a civilian goes through M.E.P.S to enlist, generally they are 4X4 contracts which means 4 years active and 4 years inactive.
What would disqualify him for enlistment?
A: If there are and physical conditions reducing an individuals ability they are disqualified from enlistment.
Will he have access to email during Boot Camp?
A: Writing letters is the main way of communication while in Boot Camp.
